Call Edna is dedicated to my great-great grandfather, Dennis Bruce Zeigler. Bruce was a labor official in Chicago, Illinois in the 1930s.

On February 24, 1933, Bruce was murdered. Someone knew when he would be coming home from work and they knew what route he would take. About a walk away from Bruce's house, they ambushed him. They fired three shots into the back of Bruce's head. He died in his son's arms.

Bruce's murder was never solved. In fact, no one was even arrested.

Like many people in my family, I've always been curious about Bruce's murder. As an attorney who has worked in the federal courts, as a public defender, and in a plaintiff's class action law firm, I would routinely research and investigate cases. So one day, I thought, why not do that for Bruce's murder too?
